In Powerpoint for Windows I can insert a great variety of symbols in an easy way. But how can I accomplish this in Powerpoint for Mac? Are there additional tools available for this? -Problems Reply- Try Edit Special Characters (again, with the cursor in text insert mode. Click in any text box).
This didn't help at first, but after a bit of dinking with it, I did something that made it decide to show me everything in the Unicode character set, or so it appears. What Steve is guiding you to is the Character Viewer feature of OS X. It provides considerably more functionality & flexibility than what is provided in any of the Office apps themselves. It's also far more powerful than what the Windows software offers, but it is not a part of nor restricted to the Mac Office software. Rather than enhancing the built-in access to character sets, Mac Office (Microsoft) is following the OS X guidelines providing access to this powerful service. The logic being that it is a waste of programming to duplicate the capability. For more on what Character Viewer can do & how to take advantage of it, see Mac Help as well as: OS X Mountain Lion: Enter special characters and symbols.
Save the PowerPoint file as a web page, which causes it to spit out a slew of CSS, XML and HMTL files. Opened all the htm files in TextWrangler (or the Searched for the font by name. Lo and behold, I was able to find the font -- in this case, it was being used in a span class within a standard Arial font.
That KB, of course, refers to OS X 10.8, so the feature may vary a little if you're using a different version of OS X. Similar articles are available from the Apple site for other versions.
If you mean special symbols you can insert into text: Click in the text to get an insertion cursor From the main menu bar, choose Insert Symbol Click the symbol you want; it's inserted into the text at the cursor position You can also press Ctrl+Command+M to view this same media browser and if you prefer, drag anything from it (including symbols) onto the slide. Symbols added this way will become text boxes, so you can't enlarge the symbol by dragging a corner; instead, select it then increase the font size, as you would any other text. You can add clip art, shapes and more using the other options in the media browser. With Insert Symbol only a small subset of the symbols available in the Windows version of Powerpoint can be inserted. Basically my question is whether there is a way to insert ALL the symbols that are available in the Windows version.
